JAMES FRANCO & MILA KUNIS JOIN "OZ: THE GREAT AND POWERFUL"! WILL TIMOTHY OLYPHANT JOIN JOHNNY DEPP IN "LONE RANGER"? CLINT EASTWOOD & JACK NICHOLSON AS OLD SUPERHEROES IN "THE GOLDEN AGE"?

As you know, Gore Verbinski (PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN) is planning a film adaptation of LONE RANGER, the story of a masked cowboy  riding a white stallion named Silver who, with the help of his Native American sidekick Tonto,  tries to
bring  unscrupulous gangs and others of that ilk to justice. Johnny Depp has been set to play Tonto from the beginning, and although there were some rumors that George Clooney might play the Ranger, there are new reports which say that the director has cast his eye on ultra charismatic Timothy Olyphant as the possible lead hero.

This is not my cup of tea, but I'm sure some of you will enjoy it :) - Matthew Vaughn (X-MEN: FIRST CLASS) wants to do another super hero film. Entitled THE GOLDEN AGE the film will focus on a retirement facility for superheroes past their prime who are trying to help their grandchildren after their parents have turned the world into chaos. Now, here's the crazy part: Vaughn wants Clint Eastwood, Jack Nicholson and Warren Beatty in the three lead roles.
Sam Raimi has found his two lead stars for OZ: THE GREAT AND POWERFUL the film which will describe the origin of Oz  and Glinda, the Good Witch of the North, Evanorah, the Wicked Witch of the East, and her sister, Theodorah, the Wicked Witch of the West. Since there are obviously no other young actors but him in Hollywood these days, James Franco
will play Oz instead of Robert Downey Jr who was kicked out of the project, while Mila Kunis will play The Wicked Witch of the West.

And people, don't forget to join Arlee Bird's A-Z CHALLENGE, it's the most massive event in the blogosphere with half a thousand of participants and you don't want to be left out :)

  1. Timothy Olyphant is my favorite. I love him in Justified. Gunslinging is something he does particularly well. He's a perfect choice.

  2. yep, Raquel ,that was my first thought also - Olyphant never seems to take his gun slinging hat off :) He's always stuck in Wild West :)

  3. I saw the pics of Franco and Mila & thought they don't look retirement age. lol But they were for the next movie. Makes much more sense.

  4. I loved Justified starring Olyphant. And did he do a great job in The Hitman or what! And wow, must mention Deadwood. Good to see he's being appreciated.

  5. That is some fantastic news. I like the casting of the old guys in a superhero story. Timothy O is one of my favorite actors especially for his work on Justified. He just screams COWBOY. Clooney is too smarmy to play any other masked hero since 'Batman and Robin'. If he was smart he would stay as far as he could from any such film.

  6. Love the concept for OZ, although I think I would watch James Franco grout tile, if necessary. ;-)

  7. I wonder if The Lone Ranger will have cool lines like,"Hiyo Silver!", "Who was that masked man?", and "Keemo sabee".

    A geezer super hero movie--yeah I'm ready for that. Be quiet, Dezmond--no wisecracks from you.

    Thanks for the promo plug for the Blogging From A to Z April Challenge 2011. Now that you've mentioned it here we'll probably be inundated with thousands of participants. They might break the Linky.

  11. Lone Ranger sounds interesting. It seems like the perfect film vehicle for Depp and potentially, Olyphant.

    James Franco is my dude so I'll see the Oz prequel.

  12. Timothy and Johnny together...Heaven. :) Mila as the Wicked Witch, well she is a very good at being oh so bad...;)

  13. Kunis has the manner to play the wickest witch :) it would be interesting to see her terrorizing farm girls and their little dogs too :))

  14. Downey is too old for Kunis. Franco is perfect. Downey is my old superhero, I love him. Eastwood, Nicholson are ancient.

    yep, that's another film :)

    @Joylene
    hey, Joylene, welcome to HOLLYWOOD SPY ;) Yep, Timothy has become an expert in playing cowboys :)

    @Kal
    yes, I'm guessing Clooney won't get the role, he's kinda old news in Hollywood these days, and he never really was financially successful so I'm guessing they won't risk it with him.

    @Liz
    then I guess you're enjoying yourself these days, since Franco is getting almost all possible roles:)

  16. @Arlee

  18. ...this venture into Oz grows more exciting by the day. Their selection of young talent riding current hot streaks, aka, seductive Mila, is wise of them:) What a perfect role for her.

  19. I love Olyphant, big-time. And I think Franco and Kunis will be awesome in that Oz movie. They are quirky and dynamic, but grounded.

  20. @Elliot
    yes, Franco is getting overly boring appearing in all possible films, but so far I have no objection when it comes to Mila :)

    @Jonathon
    it seems Olyphant really has a lot of fans :)

  21. Will the old guys have to do all their own stunts? The Olyphant dude is a good actor, I'd watch him.

    Have you managed to get a look at Treme yet? It bored my wee boy (and he got upset at all the swearing) but I thought it was a promising start.

  22. thank u for coming around
    See ya :D

  23. The Lone Ranger was one of my Saturday morning heroes as a kid. Are they gonna screw this up too?

    I'm all for the old dudes! (Don't you go there, Dez.)

    ReplyDelete
  24. @Michael
    those would be some original and interesting stunts, although I don't doubt at all that Eastwood is ten times more fit than I, fifty years younger than him, would ever be :)

    @Santi
    be welcome, Santi, and you know what's the rule - if someone follows you, follow him too ;)

    @Mary
    see the answer I gave to Michael above :)

  25. Raimi doing an Oz movie? It will be visual. Still hoping someday he will go back to his roots and turn in a really good horror flick.

    ReplyDelete
  26. uh, some of his early horrors still give me creeps ... ten or twenty years after ...

  30. These are really odd star choices with the old Beatty and Eastwood. Could be interesting.
    I'd quite like to see Wicked: the musical finally on screen.

  31. I actually quite like the idea of retired superheroes, now if only Vaughn would cast Timothy Dalton or Alan Rickman, I'd be ecstatic! :D

    As for Oz, I've never been a fan of that story and this cast doesn't exactly spell excitement for me.

    ReplyDelete
  32. @Mahno
    yep, the odd thing is what makes it interesting :)

    @Flixy
    why, surely, your dear TiDalty isn't old enough to join that crew? :)

  33. Oh man! I like Olyphant for the part and I hope that he gets it! This was news to me! Thanks for sharing!!
